Safety Services Images Police Department SBM Fire Department Community Standards Emergency Management

The Safety Services Division of the City of Blaine is comprised of the Police Department, the Spring Lake Park-Blaine-Mounds View (SBM) Fire Department and Community Standards. The division is headed by Chris Olson who serves as both safety services manager and chief of police. The Police Department has an authorized strength of 61 sworn officers, 13 full-time support personnel, six part-time non-sworn Community Service Officers and responds to approximately 32,000 calls for service annually. The Police Department also has a citizen Reserve Unit and a Law Enforcement Explorer Post.

The SBM Fire Department provides fire protection, prevention and education services to the cities of Blaine, Spring Lake Park and Mounds View. It is the largest fire protection non-profit corporation and the second largest volunteer fire department in the State of Minnesota. SBM Fire has a full-time administrative staff of nine persons along with 61 volunteer firefighters. The department responds to approximately 1,300 fire-related calls for service annually from four fire stations, three of which are located in the City of Blaine.

The Community Standards Department consists of 10 full-time staff who conduct City Code compliance inspections and related enforcement activities; housing inspections, fire inspections and fire marshaling and building plan reviews for fire code compliance.
