Neighborhood Crime Watch in Blaine has been alive and
well for many years. It is a proven, nation wide
program that encourages people to look out for each
other, report suspicious activities and become involved
in their neighborhood. What does it take to have Crime
Watch in your neighborhood?
Talk to your neighbors to see if there is interest. Call the
Crime Prevention Unit at 763-785-6186 to schedule a
meeting. The meetings are usually held at a person’ s home in the area where they live. The meeting itself only takes 30 to 45 minutes. A person from the neighborhood is asked to be the "Block Captain" who acts as a liaison between the neighborhood and the police department. What are the benefits? Signs are posted on the street indicating your neighborhood participates in Crime Watch. A newsletter is published 4 times a year; you learn who belongs in your neighborhood and who doesn’t.
Blaine has over 80 Crime Watch groups. Our big night of the year is National Night Out. For the past 3 years Blaine has won an award for their efforts from the National Town Watch Association.
